The Ashley River Crossing project is a bicycle and pedestrian bridge that will connect West Ashley and Downtown Charleston. The bridge will provide a safe connection between the West Ashley Greenway, Brittlebank Park and the Ashley River Walk. The project also includes the addition of a crosswalk at Wapoo Road and the West Ashley Greenway, and at the US 17 Ramps/Lockwood Drive/Bee Street intersections.
The official groundbreaking of this project took place on Wednesday, January 8th, marking an important and long-awaited step toward making Charleston a more accessible, affordable, and sustainable city. The Ashley River Crossing will help alleviate traffic congestion and reduce environmental impacts caused by motor vehicles by providing a safer and more extensive path for walking, running, and bike travel to and from the peninsula, helping to make exercise and environmental protection the easy choice. The Ashley River Crossing is projected to be complete within 2027 to 2028.
