City’s Sunscreen Initiative

The City of Charleston partnered with I Will Reflect and IMPACT Melanoma to install sunscreen dispensers in various parks and public spaces throughout the city, including Brittlebank and Hampton Parks, White Point Gardens, and the Ravenel Bridge pedestrian walkway, and many more. As you participate in recreational activities, programs or events, take advantage of this service.

Sport SPF 30 sunscreen is dispensed in measured doses and is free to use. Keep an eye out for these dispensers and be sure to protect your skin while you’re out enjoying the sun in our beautiful city!

A Message From our Mayor

Welcome to Lighten Up Charleston!

The health of each of our residents is essential to the quality of life of our city and region. As Augusten Burroughs once said, “When you have your health, you have everything. When you do not have your health, nothing else matters at all.”

I want to congratulate you on taking the first step toward a healthier lifestyle. Whether you’re on this website because you want to lose weight, find a group to exercise with or learn healthy recipes, you will find many community resources to help you reach your goal. Together, we can Lighten Up!

William Cogswell, Mayor
