Q1: What is Lighten Up Charleston?
A1: Lighten Up Charleston is a collaborative wellness initiative for the Charleston community that provides an interactive website for people to find programs in our community to help them get healthy, track their progress, and learn ways to lose weight. The goal of the first year is for the Charleston community to lose 100,000 pounds and following that proceed to become recognized as the healthiest city in the southeastern US. The use of the website is FREE .
Q2: Who sponsors Lighten Up Charleston?
A2: The City of Charleston is leading the initiative with steering committee members representing MUSC, Roper-St. Francis Healthcare, College of Charleston, the Citadel, Charleston County School District, SC DHEC Region 7, Benefitfocus, and other community partners.

A3: We recommend that you consult your doctor before beginning any nutritional and exercise program.
Q4: Who is eligible to participate in Lighten Up Charleston?
A4: Everyone is invited to join Lighten Up Charleston. There is information, activities and programs for both adults and children.
Q5: When and how do I register to participate in Lighten Up Charleston?
A5: Registration is easy. Click on the Register Now button in the right hand corner and you will be asked several questions. Then you will be able to start tracking your progress!
Q6: Can I join at any time?
A6: You are invited to join at any time, just click REGISTER NOW and join the challenge, while learning more about healthy eating, physical activity, portion control, drinking less sugary sweetened beverages, tracking and so much more.
Q7: How do I register a group?
A7: You can easily register a Group by logging in and clicking on Join a Group feature. If you don’t see your group, you can easily submit the information on the form, and we will create the Group.
Q8: Can I be a member of more than 1 group?
A8: Yes and your weight will be logged in with each group; however, on the challenge dashboard the weight will only be recorded once.
Q9: What is my username and password?
A9: You choose your username and password. Using your last name and first letter are always potential options and easier to remember.
Q10: How do I get weighed- in?
A10: The weigh ins are self reporting and you can use your scale at home or at one of community sites.To record your weight click WEIGH IN on the weight chart side bar.
Q11: How do I track my progress?
A11: When you log in each time with your username and password you will have the opportunity to record your weight, physical activity and fruits and other activities. This information will appear in your journal that will help you with tracking your history throughout this challenge.
A12: When you log in each time with your username and password and log in your weight you will have the opportunity to view an incentive page with e-coupons for you to use. These e-coupons are provided by community organizations to encourage participation in the Lighten Up Charleston initiative. The incentive page with the e-coupons will then be displayed and you can select a coupon(s). The coupon(s ) will link to a downloadable coupon you can print for future use. The incentive page is updated weekly.
